The Stromberg Family has been connected to ARCA for generations. Their story is closely tied to Marcella Stromberg, who began receiving services in 1982 and was supported by ARCA for nearly 30 years. Their mother, Patricia, was also deeply involved in early advocacy efforts that helped shape services for individuals with developmental disabilities in New Mexico.
To the Stromberg family, ARCA has always meant family. Throughout Marcella’s life, they experienced what it means to have people provide not just care but consistency, compassion, and a true feeling of community. “I would like to think that ARCA makes me part of the biggest and most loving family in town.”
There’s one moment that has stayed with them over the years. During an ARCA Board meeting, a member receiving services shared how proud he was to be working and able to give back. It was a simple moment, but one that showed the dignity, independence, and feeling of purpose that opportunity can create.
ARCA also changed the way life looked for their family. Knowing Marcella was safe, cared for, and supported gave them a feeling of stability that cannot be measured. It allowed them to focus on being a family while trusting she was surrounded by people who truly cared. Over the years, they have seen ARCA grow and expand, reaching more individuals and families while continuing to center its work on care, connection, and opportunity.
For the Stromberg family, what makes ARCA different is simple. It is love.
