Incurring a head injury has devastating and long lasting effects on an individual. Although the victim may recover physically, there are often cognitive or psychological changes that preclude him from returning to his previous lifestyle. The head injured individual often has difficulty identifying these deficits and as a result is unable to accept his current circumstances. Recently there has been a focus on written material to assist professionals and families in understanding the cognitive and behavioral sequel of closed head injury. We have been frequently asked to present our family manual to groups of people interested in head trauma. Oftentimes there are head injured patients in the audience and we have become increasingly aware of the lack of materials written to them as opposed to about them. In order to meet his need, we have written a book addressed solely to the patient.
